Flashpoint Fountain
A study of the programmatic needs of the fastest (fictional) man on earth - The Flash!
The opening assignment for my third architecture studio had us conduct a three-week study of the programmatic needs of a popular super hero character on a given street corner in the Denver Metro Area. For my assignment I was assigned The Flash and the intersection between the Denver Millennium Bridge and Commons Park.
Through my analysis of the site, I decided to give The Flash a straight circulation path, modifying the existing infrastructure. Additionally, I added dynamic, sculptural water feature which acts as a chronometer, which detects The Flash's velocity as he runs through and causes the fountain to erupt and the light features to change.
When The Flash is traveling at full speed, he is moving faster than the speed of light and cannot be seen. The fountain provides an imprint that The Flash has passed through the space without him having actually been seen.
